The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Court Filing Details Flight Fears

In a document approving the detention, the judge said data from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a legislator, called for a gathering of his backers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your country, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the judge's decision was the possibility of the former president's move to foreign missions near the dwelling, considering that the investigations revealed a background of organizing to seek refuge through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the US embassy in the national capital, Brazil's capital, is located around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

Bolsonaro's legal woes have generated frustration from fellow populist conservative American leader President Trump, causing him to implement a half-rate duty on goods coming from Brazil.

The former president is being held in a federal law enforcement building in Brazil's capital city and will experience a custody hearing on Sunday.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also petitioned that he be allowed to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he demanded ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other health problems.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was convicted of leading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he knew of a scheme which encompassed plans to kill Lula and his running partner, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was sworn in without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, Brasília.

The police stepped in and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been incited by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the period, his attorneys called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until 2060 - eight years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The ex-leader called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was aimed at blocking him participating in the next presidential race.
